Life is full of surprises, right? Sometimes those surprises are less than pleasant, but when damage occurs to things that do not belong to you, the horror is multiplied! We’d say it’s better to be safe than sorry, but insurance for car rentals is mandatory anyway. So instead of selling you on the idea, let’s walk you through what rent-a-car insurance covers.
Like in every industry, there are several secrets and tips in car rental world as well, things that many people don’t know and facts that can be very useful for every customer. When it comes to car rental industry, here are some pieces of advice and secrets that one should know before renting his/her first vehicle…
One of the best kept secrets in car rental industry which many people don’t know is that it’s often best to rent cars from small companies. We’ve all heard of some of biggest car rental companies that have their offices almost everywhere in the world, but it’s the small local “players” that often have offers tailored for specific audiences (such as international students or travelers) and using them might save you some money and time.
Another car rental secret is that it’s best to rent a car anywhere but the airport. Why? Well, one of the reasons is that airport car rentals are often required by law to add local and state surcharges. Besides, most rent a car companies (at least in San Diego area) offer a free shuttle from and to the nearby airport, so it’s best that you reserve a vehicle in advance from a rental company that’s adjacent to the airport, but not directly on it.
Some car rental companies have hidden fees in their contracts and if you’re not careful, they could charge you extra for almost anything. Now that you know that secret, be sure to double check everything with your car rental company before hitting the road. One other thing you should look out for are insurances. You should always check if there are some insurance fees which can be covered by your credit card company, so you don’t end up paying for unnecessary insurance.
If possible, always get an international driving permit when travelling and knowing you’re going to use car rental abroad. Although you don’t always need that permit it does provide a familiar and recognizable form of identification if you get pulled over by the police. Also, these permits aren’t expensive, so it’s advisable to have one whenever you’re traveling abroad — this little secret can help you a lot!
One more piece of advice you can use when renting a car is that you should book your vehicle as early as possible. As soon as you find out when your trip is going to happen, book your car rental and don’t let holiday sell outs to disturb you or to prevent you from using car rental.
Like in every other part of your life, it’s best to be accurate and do not forget: the early bird catches the worm!
This is my fourth month that I've been renting a car from Express. The first reason why I chose this company, is the cheap price, but now the helpfulness and friendliness of the Express family are also the other reasons. Thank you.
